Nuwara Eliya… nestled in a wooded basin at the foot of Mount Pidurutalagala Sri Lanka’s highest peak, this region at 6,183ft above sea-level Has a cool, crisp climate unknown elsewhere in Sri Lanka. A serene retreat from the hustle and bustle of Colombo, the town seems like a piece of the English Lake District. Unusual plants, birds and animals thrive here besides natural feature like waterfalls and caves. Tea, the glistening green leaves of this lovely shrub, along with neat rows of green, cloak ridges and valleys providing a lasting impression of Sri Lanka’s Hill Country. The golf course – one of the most finest and picturesque in Asia – the serene Anglican Church of the Holy Trinity, beautiful parks and well kept lawns and hedges give the place an air of nostalgia.
Later proceed on a visit of the Hakgala Gardens
Hakgala Gardens lie beneath the towering Hakgala Rock some 10km southeast of Nuwara Eliya, with majestic views across the hills of Uva province. The gardens were first established in 1861 to grow "cinchona", a source of the anti-malarial drug quinine, and were later expanded to include a wide range of foreign species. They are also now well known, at least amongst dedicated horticulturalists, for their roses. The gardens sprawl up the steep hillside, ranging from the anodyne ornamental areas around the entrance to the far wilder and more interesting forests up the hill-the best views are from the steps and path that lead through the azalea garden up to a little pavilion. The wooded portions of the gardens include many majestic Monterey cypresses from California, plus fine old cedars, a section of enormous tree ferns, stands of Japanese camphor, and pines and eucalpyts. The garden is also one of the best places in the island to spot endemic montane bird species. Return to the hotel. Dinner & overnight stay Gouverners Chalet, Nuwara Eliya
Breakfast at the hotel. Leave the hotel for a visit of Sri Lankas largest & most famous plateau. Perched on the very edge of the hill country midway between Nuwara Eliya and Haputale,Horton Plains Natural Park covers a wild stretch of bleak, high altitude moorland bounded at its southern edge of the hill country, including the famous 'World End", where the escarpment falls sheer for the best part of a kilometer to the lowlands below. You will feel the cool, wet climate which has fostered the growth of a distinctive range of flora, including various rhododendrons, bamboos, tree ferns and many endemic species of plants, making the Plains an area of great biological value. The Plains' wildlife attraction are relatively modest. Leopards still visit the park, but one has to be incredibly luckily to see one. The parks most visible residents are its herds of deer and bear-faced monkeys. The plains are also one of the best places in the island for bird watching and an excellent places to see Montana endemics such as the dull-blue flycatcher; bush warbler, whistling thrush, yellow-eared bulbul, as well as orange minarets. Return back to the hotel or proceed on an optional excursion of the second tallest water fall of Sri Lanka – Dunhinda (210 Feet) The Dunhinda Falls are located 5 km north of Badulla on the Badulla - Taldena Road. From the main road, with its fine views of the Badulu Oya valley, there is a 1- 2 kilometre path to the waterfall. This path in fact follows the course of the Badulu Oya, which flows at the bottom of the valley through dense forest. Dinner & overnight stay Gouverners Chalet, Nuwara Eliya
